Our Last Open House Is Coming Up

DMIS is already enrolling for the 2011-12 school year. You’re invited to see what our campus is like and to meet DMIS faculty, parents and students at our last Open House for the current academic year. Join us 10 a.m- 1 p.m., Jan. 30 just before the start of our 9th Annual World Tea Fair.

DMIS Makes More Friends In China

DMIS actively works each year to strengthen its ties with educators around the world for the purposes of faculty recruitment, professional development and curriculum improvement. Executive Director Adam Sexton, Academic Director Francois Penalver and Mandarin Program Coordinator Yun Doyle recently returned from a 10-day exploratory trip to China, where they promoted our school and discovered new ways to deliver outstanding Mandarin education. Can you imagine a school of 10,000 students or supervising recess for 3,000 kids? See our Mandarin program in action for yourself when we celebrate Chinese New Year on Feb. 4.

“Speaking In Tongues” Event A Success

We were pleased to start the new year with DMIS’ inaugural Distinguished Speaker Series — special events designed to showcase our school and reinforce the benefits of a full-immersion, bilingual education. Numerous studies show that children who acquire more than one language at an early age academically outperform their monolingual peers. Our first event was hosted by Greg Moore, editor of The Denver Post. Mr. Moore, one of the nation’s most respected journalists, has two children enrolled at DMIS. He introduced a screening of the documentary, “Speaking in Tongues,” which chronicles the full-immersion education of four children in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Get Comfy For A Good Cause

Each year, DMIS raises money to support Denver’s Road Home, a nonprofit organization that works to end homelessness in the metro region. To help students realize how fortunate they are to have warm and caring homes, we allow them to wear their PJs to class on Pajama Day, which is recognized citywide. Students who want to be super comfy in class pay $1, and staff members pay $5. Mark your calendars because Pajama Day will be Feb. 10, 2011.

We Are Thankful For Our Parents

DMIS successfully keeps tuition rates low because it counts on parents to help defray the schools’ costs. Our parents always rise to the challenge. We’re currently looking for volunteers to assist with several PTO projects and initiatives this winter.
