Jacques-Olivier “J.O.” Grall Johansson
Physical Education
J.O. is a native of Paris, France and has been living in Denver and teaching at DMIS for a decade. J.O. received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Management from the University of Paris X and the Institut National du Sport et de l’Education Physique(INSEP). He has thirty years of experience in athletics — as a player, coach, city sports events coordinator and now as a teacher. Away from school, you can find J.O. enjoying Colorado’s beautiful outdoors — skiing and playing hockey in the winter, baseball and golf in the summer and hiking year-round with his dog, Kona. He is married with a daughter, Joya, and son, Charlie.

Risa “Ms. Mac” Machovec
Visual Art
Risa Machovec earned a bachelor’s degree in art at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and worked as a free-lance graphic designer after moving to Denver. Ms. Mac taught visual art to pre-kindergarten through 8th grade at Montclair Academy from 2000-2009. With the merger of Montclair and DIS in 2008-09, she began teaching art at both schools and currently teaches pre-school through 6th grade students at DMIS. She furthered her professional development with classes at the Denver Art Museum, the Botanic Gardens and the Community College of Denver.
She has attended several state art conferences (CAEA) and a national art conference (NAEA), providing her with rich art experiences and contacts with art teachers throughout Colorado. Ms. Mac believes all children are artists, and she enjoys teaching every DMIS student. She and her husband have two children who graduated from Montclair Academy. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, photography, hiking and dreaming up new art projects.

Kristin West
Music
Kristin originally hails from Fairport, New York. She received bachelor’s degrees in Childhood Education and Music Education from SUNY Potsdam, and a master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology from the University of Southern California. During the last four years in Denver, Kristin has taught a multi-age 2nd and 3rd grade class, a private preschool class and pre-K through 5th grade general music. Kristin recently performed a one-musician musical (entitled BUBS) at the Fringe Festival in New York. On the weekends, she maintains a private studio for piano, clarinet, saxophone and voice. In her rare moments of free time, Kristin loves to read, swim competitively, dance and make music.

Rie Seaver
Middle School P.E. Teacher and Part-time Japanese Teacher
Rie Honsawa Seaver was born in Tokyo, Japan and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the Tokyo Women’s College. She taught physical education at the elementary and high school levels for many years in the Tokyo public school system. She is certified to teach physical education and Japanese in Colorado as well, and worked as the Athletic Director at Montclair Academy for three years. Her daughter graduated from Montclair Academy. In her free time, Rie loves making crafts, pottery and cooking.
