Pajama Day at DMIS
DMIS students participated in the city-wide PJ Day on Feb. 9 for the fourth year in a row. Students donated $1 and teachers, $5, to wear their pajamas to school to support Denver’s Road Home, the non-profit organization working to end homelessness in Denver. DMIS was pleased to raise almost $1,000 for this worthy cause! We were also thrilled that several special guests from the Governor’s and Mayor’s offices visited DMIS on this busy day. We welcomed Dr. Jamie VanLeeuwen, the original Director of Denver’s Road Home and now the Senior Advisor and Director of Community Partnerships for Governor Hickenlooper, Andrew Freeman, Chief of Staff to Lieutenant Governor Joseph A. Garcia and June Allen, appointed by Mayor Hancock as the Denver Human Services Deputy Manager. They read stories to the Kindergarten classes about the importance of having a home and supportive community, while they engaged in a round table discussion with the 6th grade class about the services the city of Denver and state of Colorado provide for the homeless population.
