Summer Camps Start Summer Strong!

Wow, what an exciting first week of summer! We have been having a blast so far, and we hope the new Summer Camp Blog will be a way for you to share this experience with us right here in cyberspace. Each week, we will share a new post filled with highlights, happenings and anecdotes for you to enjoy. Don’t forget to experience our YouTube channel and downloadable photos in our Photo Gallery!

From Taekwondo to Le Chef, princes and world travelers to Xtreme Action — our first week was an incredible success!  Taekwondo blew us all away as they trained hard each day and learned the many techniques of the “art of the foot and fist,”  leading up to impressive feats of skill as they broke boards with their bare hands and knees. But perhaps we shouldn’t have been too surprised by these fantastic displays, as some of our 3 and 4 year olds were creating their own fantastic world of Princes and Princesses just across campus! We added to this spirit of adventure the 10-12 year old campers, who over the course of a week, transformed from horsemen to archers to rock climbers and go-kart drivers.

Our language camps inspired us with their journeys through international cultures, as they re-created landmarks and iconic symbols, tasted different foods, toured the museum and its international treasures, and took a train ride through Tiny Town. With all of that crammed into one week, they proved it truly is a small world! Le Chef camp also took up the international theme, as our campers learned how to create dishes from all over the world. From crepes to quesadillas, gofres (Spanish chocolate covered waffles) to stir fry, our chefs never ceased to create spectacular dishes. After all their time in the kitchen and touring local spice shops and grocers, they were ready for their final challenge: Iron Chef Pizzas! After whipping together their own dough and sauce and adding their own special designs of toppings, they left the judges so overwhelmed that in an unprecedented decision all the teams were awarded the grand prize of homemade cookies and ice cream! All in all, a wonderful week and great beginning to our summer!
